Qld: Handler injured in tussle between two show bulls at Ekka

By Debra Nowland

BRISBANE, Aug 12 AAP - A bull handler who tried to separate two fighting bulls today
came off second best and was rushed to hospital.

The handler, from Tin Brook Cattle Services, was caught in the middle of the melee
this morning between the two show bulls in the cattle pavilion at Brisbane's "Ekka" showgrounds.

Show spokeswoman, Nan Dwyer said the bulls "got into a spat" because they probably
didn't like being put in the same pen.

"The bulls apparently for some reason decided to have a little tussle between themselves,
the handler tried to separate them and that's when he had some trouble," she said.

"When they're penned up with each other they're perhaps inclined to get a bit snorty
if they don't like the look of the fellow next door."

She said a number of people were on hand to come to the aid of the bull handler.

He was rushed to the Royal Brisbane hospital by ambulance with possible head and hip injures.

Ms Dwyer said the bulls had since been separated and were much happier away from one another.

"They're quite quiet now," she said.

The incident came just two days after a prize-winning bull bolted from his handler
before he sat down with some fibreglass bulls at the show's horticultural pavilion.
