NSW: More young people should join a political party: Carr

SYDNEY, Aug 6 AAP - NSW Premier Bob Carr today urged young people to get involved inpolitics by joining a party.

Mr Carr was speaking to more than 130 government school student leaders at the state'sannual Student Representative Council conference in Arcadia, in Sydney's north-west.

"Give some serious thought to being part of the process that shapes policy in our nation,"

Mr Carr told the students.

"Build on your sense of leadership by joining a political party of your choice.

"We need young people of high quality to become tomorrow's leaders."

Students from 40 district student representative councils (SRCs) as well as 10 Aboriginalstudent leaders attended the conference.

Mr Carr praised the students at the SRC conference.

"The young people at this conference are already student leaders," Mr Carr said.

"Each of them is intelligent, articulate and well-informed, they are proud representativesof our public education system."
